Why should kids color? 🌈

There are many developmental benefits to coloring:
1) It helps to build hand strength and promote the development of their pencil grasp.
2) It works on visual motor skills.
3) It helps to build focus and attention.
4) It encourages creativity and self-expression.
5) It is a calming activity that can help a child (and adults) to self-regulate.

We also LOVE colouring for social interaction! As someone who has worked with children for a long time in various settings, Kristina at Willow OT sees the magic of using art for social interaction as it takes the pressure off of the child to follow standard communication rules. Eye contact ISNT needed, focus can be on your art, silence means concentration and not that you’re ignoring someone, and introverted children can feel calm but included!
Do you encourage your child to color?
And who here loves adult coloring books? 🙋‍♀️
