…just so we are on the same page 🤓

These are the standards around here. This is for the few and not the masses…

The hardest time of my life was from the summer of 2022 until December 2023. In January 2024, I was diagnosed with near adrenal failure by my functional medicine practitioner. I was “the walking dead” and just months away from being hospitalized.

What led to this was a wild situation my wife and I had to navigate for the better part of five years.

Perform, and you will survive.

I have been in the coaching and advisory space, formally, for 18 years. I’m not one of the “I did AYA once and now I’m here to save the world” coaches. You’d think I would have had the tools to deal with what was coming at me with more ease, grace, and power.

Apparently not.

It is abundantly clear to me now that God put this in my path so I would listen. Some of us need everything stripped away to finally hear His call.

As part of getting well, I had to take time off. There was no other option. The unknown was terrifying. I remember looking out my office window thinking:

“Who am I if I am not working or performing?”

I was having a full-blown identity crisis…

“Who am I without producing?”
“Who am I without filling programs?”
“Who am I without working?”

What it ultimately led me to was:

“Who am I without performing?”

I had been carrying a 2,000lb backpack for decades.

My life had been built on a foundation of performance.

Perform and you will be accepted.
Perform and you will be approved of.
Perform and you will be admired.
Perform and you will be respected.
Perform and you will be seen.
Perform and you will survive.

So who are you without performing?

I sat in that question for months. And as time passed, I became more and more terrified.

Then one morning, God spoke to me:

“Do what I tell you. Trust me. Have faith.”

Months later, it clicked.

Who I am without performance is Presence.

In the presence of God…
In the presence of my spiritual self…
In the presence of my body…
In the presence of my mind…
In the presence of my inner child…

When I am in the presence of the wholeness of who I am, anything is possible.

This can’t be undone.

It’s here to stay.

With everything that’s happening in the world right now it’s very easy to get pulled in.

I am not immune to this. I’m a men with a very big heart. I care, a lot.

However.

Just because we care, it doesn’t mean we need to get pulled in.

I got pulled in.

I got pulled in to what’s happening in the industry and in the world.

It can happen to all of us.

What’s important is that we acknowledge that we get pulled in and we do what we need to bring ourselves back to center.

I’ve always looked at it this way…

Am I going to be the one to make the change?

In this case, the answer is no.

If the answer is no, drop it and move on with your business and your life.

If it’s not this thing, then it’s gonna be the next thing.

Remember, we all get to choose what we focus on. What we focus on expands.
