Long before modern cities rose across Canada, the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy) were building powerful symbols of unity and community — the Longhouse.
These weren’t just houses.
They were entire clans living under one roof.
Stretching up to 100 feet long, built with wooden frames and covered in bark, longhouses were warm, strong, and designed for harsh Eastern Canadian winters. Multiple families lived inside — each with their own space, but sharing central fires.
💡 And here’s the powerful part:
The Haudenosaunee Confederacy itself was often called “The People of the Longhouse.”
The structure symbolized political unity between nations.
📍Found across what is now Ontario, Quebec, and northeastern North America.
Long before modern architecture talked about “sustainable design” and “community living”… Indigenous peoples were already doing it.
✨ Built for survival.
✨ Built for family.
✨ Built for unity.
Respect the roots. Learn the history.
👇 Would you live in a longhouse with your whole clan?
