The strength and resilience of Somali women around the world is a constant source of inspiration. Among them, Khadija stands out. Born in a refugee camp and later immigrating to Canada, her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance. As the first Somali woman and Muslim Hijabi to compete in Miss Universe, Khadija became my muse. She is a queen in waiting—leading with grace, vision, and purpose.

When designing, I asked myself: *How should we honor the first Somali woman and Hijabi on such a global stage?* I found inspiration in the Somali leopard—powerful, fearless, and graceful. Khadija embodies this spirit. Her strength, courage, and dignity in breaking barriers have been a guiding light in this process.

The gold scarf in the design symbolizes modesty as power—Khadija’s strength lies in her faith and identity. It also nods to Mexico City’s El Ángel Monument, a symbol of triumph that has long inspired me. The skirt, transitioning from satin to fur, represents both luxury and resilience—mirroring Khadija’s ability to rise above challenges with elegance and power.

This design is a tribute to Khadija and to Somali women everywhere—queens waiting to be crowned and leading the world with strength and grace.
