Wat Phra Ram, built in 1369 on the actual cremation site of Ayutthaya’s first king. Not metaphorically. Actually. Right there.

The huge central tower you see is Khmer-style, which shows how connected this region was to the Khmer Empire at the time. Ayutthaya was basically the New York of Southeast Asia in its day — international, rich, powerful, and full of temples instead of skyscrapers.
What I loved about Wat Phra Ram is how open everything is — ruins, lakes, trees, and these massive structures just sitting there like it’s completely normal to be 650+ years old.

History here isn’t in a museum. You walk inside it.
