Darren Footz decided that there should be a more sustainable option without compromising taste. As the President of Granville Island Coffee, a nationally distributed coffee brand, Footz envisioned a single-serve beverage device that brewed not only a premium cup of coffee, but could also be constructed using 100% biodegradable and compostable materials. Researchers recently found deep in the lungs of living people. The most abundant microplastic particles were polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), often used in plastic packaging and bottles, respectively.
Biodegradable alternatives to fossil-based plastic are not only more sustainable, they also break down quickly in industrial composting facilities. Reversing the threat of microplastics to human health starts by reducing the amount of single-use plastic that ends up in our parks, oceans, lakes, and landfills.
At NEXE, we are driven to replace every day single-use plastics, like PET, PP with plant-based, fully compostable alternatives.
