In 2023, I finished a grand total of one artwork; a commission. That doesn’t account for how time-consuming that piece was, the unfinished projects, or the simple ones I did for fun, but there’s no way around it: 2023 was not a year of art.

In the previous 7 years, I’d rarely go a week without doing art, in 2023 I went for months.

It’s hard to explain why. It wasn’t because of some life-altering event, I hadn’t lost my love for it, I wasn’t too busy. I just didn’t feel the same need to and I wasn’t about to force it.

That need is slowly creeping back in. I have a series of paintings I want to create (this post features the thumbnails for one of them) and I’ve doing that off and on for several months. I also miss writing captions so here I am doing that as well.

Will 2024 be my comeback year? I doubt it. Give it a few months and I’ll have a baby to occupy my attention. 😉 But I’m more than okay with that.
