SF-1 is a student competition team from Simon Fraser University. We are comprised of over 30 students from various programs including but not limited to Mechatronics & Electrical Engineering, SIAT, Business and Communications. Our mission is to provide our students at SFU a practical way to apply the knowledge they've learnt in their studies and to give them the real world experience that is neces
sary to propel them forward after their time at post secondary. United, we work together to one common cause, to design build and race a Formula One car. Every year we design and build a new formula one car to compete down at Formula SAE (FSAE) in Michigan and/or Lincoln. The competition brings together over a 150 schools across North America to compete on an International level. It is the ultimate design competition for students at Simon Fraser University. The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever problem solving.
