SNAP is a unique partnership that brings together three local environmental non-profit organizations with the City of Surrey's Urban Forestry section to restore, enhance, and promote the health and sustainability of our city's urban forest. Each year we employ youth to undertake a variety of projects that improve the health and vitality of our natural heritage while promoting the stewardship of these places with residents.
🌲Step into the serenity of Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest Park...🌿
🌿Tucked in the heart of South Surrey lies a rare gem: 140 hectares of protected second-growth forest, home to black-tailed deer, songbirds, and ancient trails that whisper stories of resilience, restoration, and respect.
🦌Wander along over 4 km of nature trails—from the Wally Ross universal access trail to the peaceful Douglas-fir and Moss trails. Whether you’re here to reflect, walk, or connect with the land, there’s a trail for you.
🪶This forest stands on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Semiahmoo, Tsawwassen, Katzie, and Kwantlen Nations. For generations, Indigenous peoples have stewarded this land—gathering medicine, harvesting food, and practicing culture in harmony with nature.
🧡Sunnyside Acres was saved by the people, for the people—protected in perpetuity since 1988 when residents voted to preserve it as one of Canada’s first dedicated urban forests. Today, it remains the only sizable natural second-growth forest in the Lower Mainland.
📣 The Sunnyside Acres Heritage Society carries this stewardship forward—preserving, protecting, and sharing this living forest for generations to come.
