The 2026 Sundre Pro Rodeo is now in the books, and to say it didn’t come with its share of challenges would be an understatement. In the face of adversity, our crew rose to the occasion and came through with flying colours.

As I look back, there are so many highlights from this year. From one of the toughest groups of junior barrel racers we’ve ever seen compete in Sundre, to having three of the ranchiest young ladies in an all-girl wild pony racing team take home three beautiful Gist buckles, the talent on display was incredible. The contestant power at this year’s rodeo was second to none as well, with one of our largest entries to date at 544 competitors.

To our contract personnel: you are simply amazing. You should all be very proud of your individual crafts and contributions. Your professionalism is unmatched, and I want to thank each and every one of you for helping make this weekend such a success.

To our committee and all of our incredible volunteers: a million thanks go out to all of you for helping us put on the show that we do. I don’t often like to single out one specific group, but this year I will. Our timed-event crew was run by a group of young men who could have been my sons—one of them actually was. Boys, it was beyond impressive watching you work this weekend. I want you to know how proud I am of each of you and everything you accomplished.

To our incredible sponsors: your generosity and support continue to make this event possible. The commitment you show to our rodeo and our community is second to none. We are truly blessed to have your unwavering support, and we thank you for everything you do to help us succeed in Sundre.

To our fans who came out and supported us again this year: thank you from the bottom of our hearts. True Sundre rodeo fans showed up in tremendous numbers, and 2026 was one of our strongest years yet for attendance. Your loyalty never goes unnoticed, and we are grateful for your continued support.

This year’s rodeo also came with a frightening moment on Saturday afternoon when one of our rodeo family members experienced a medical emergency just before the performance was set to begin. To our friend: we are so thankful that you are okay and recovering. Your Sundre Pro Rodeo family had you in our prayers, and we want you to know how much we love you.

There are many more stories and memories I could share, but I’ll leave you with one final thought. Terry Cooke, I miss you dearly. I hope you had the best seat in the house watching over us these past four days.
