Tattoo Funeral

I'm very proud to have been chosen to create this year's awards for the Prairie Conservation and Endangered Species Conference (PCESC) presented by the Prairie Conservation Action Plan (PCAP) with Nature Conservancy Canada (NCC).

Created as two triptychs. Painted in acrylics, on 203mm² Birch gallery cradles. The conservation awards (above) are gilded in 24k gold leaf and were presented to individuals across the prairies. The young professional awards (below) are gilded in brushed copper and were also presented to individuals across the prairies. Each painting was personalized with an acknowledgment in calligraphy, by hand on 190gsm paper mounted on the inside panel.

I chose these motifs, Burrowing Owls and Black Tailed Prairie Dogs, as they are species at risk and dependant on each other. I feel this represents both the individual recipients efforts and the combined on going cooperation of these organizations as a whole.
