Sask Command - Royal Canadian Legion
05/28/2026
Today, May 28th 2026, marks a monumental day in Canada.
On this day twenty-six years ago, the remains of the Unknown Soldier were laid to rest at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.
The Royal Canadian Legion was determined to establish a resting place of honour and respect for one soldier, that would represent all. A key decision was to select the Unknown Soldier from the First World War battlefield near Vimy Ridge, symbolizing a defining moment in Canadian history when all four Canadian divisions fought together under Canadian command
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a sacred site of Remembrance, representing all of the servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
