This saying has become pretty common these days, but I don't necessarily agree with it, because your cup is always full. It's a matter of energy surrounding your cup. What do I mean?

Energy is either high or low, and low energy will suck you dry of joy, excitement and put you in an un-resourceful state. High energy, although draining will put you in a resourceful state in which you are accomplishing great things, you are engaging and effective.

I coach people to manage their energy regardless of the external world, you see, when the external world is able to impact your internal state, this is how you become at the effect of things, rather than being at cause.

So don't fill your cup, it's full, align your values, tell people when they are pushing up against them, and if all else fails, walk away; it's not like they are holding you hostage.
