Magpies Kitchen

First of all, we’d like to acknowledge all the wonderful staff members that have come to us some for short time, some for a little longer. We’ve had the pleasure to witness students moving through high school, university, and eventually onto their big bold lives. Some have moved on to big careers, marriage, and babies. We feel really fortunate to have witnessed their growth and maturing to adulthood. We are so proud of every every young person. We have to thank each and every one of them for their hard work, patience, and kindness towards our guests. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey.
We are so grateful for the small team we have today. We have said out loud that we would not be in business today if it were not for our Irish sister, Eleanor. Eleanor has graciously stayed with us for 10 1/2 years, she treats our business like it’s her own. We couldn’t ask for a more compassionate, naturally kind, and thoughtful person to manage our front end. She has been a true gift to the business and especially to us personally.
Nathaly, who’s been with us in the kitchen for many years. She is incredibly hard-working, creative, determined, and such an incredible joy to have in the kitchen. She has a sense of humour that is unparalleled, and we so appreciate the levity and energy that she brings to the kitchen.
We’ve been so fortunate to have Ella and Mahaylia as our barista‘s this past year. They are smart, hard working, witty, creative, and calm young humans that have tremendous social conscious.
When we worry about the world, these these two reassure us that the future is in good hands. (Continued in comments) 👇

What do we love most about the everyday life of being a Magpies owner?
What we love about what we do is working shoulder to shoulder with our team.
It’s the number one thing. It’s really the highlight. There is so much joy that comes from working with people that are so hardworking, so caring, and compassionate.
We rely on one another.
Everybody brings their gifts to the table, we rally and get the job done together. But, at the same time, that time we spend together is meaningful.
We’ve said this over the years, it doesn’t matter what kind of business you’re running or what your day or night job is, it is really about the people that you share your experience with.
You spend so many hours together that we really believe in surrounding yourself with people you care about and really want to be with.
And, we really want to be with one another.
We have a sisterhood.

How many cookies do we make at Christmas...
I just have to guess thousands and thousands of cookies that we’ve made over the years!
And thank goodness when Cindy was with us. She did production, and she did it so very well.
Cindy kept us very organized, and did a beautiful job decorating as well.
So, we have to give Cindy a shout out for those beautiful Christmas cookies.
But, year after year we do thousands of cookies over the holidays.

Our largest event catered...
For a single family that would be the Hewson wedding.
That was our largest full event!
We’ve done other events - some catered events for Sara Lindsay when she hosted Sask Fashion Week at the RCMP Heritage Museum. We’ve done many of her holiday annual Christmas parties which are always great fun, they can be a little larger as well.
But I think the largest sit down event was definitely the Hewson’s wedding.
