Week 4: The Roadmap πŸ—ΊοΈ

Let's kick off the final week of the with The Roadmap! This week is all about recording your wishes so that your family and loved ones have the insight they need to help you leave your legacy on your terms. This is the heart of estate planning and it can be emotional and overwhelming but it is worth it! Let's do this!

Step 1: Give some thought about your health care preferences and what kind of decisions you would want made for you if you weren't in a position to make them yourself. The Saskatchewan Health Authority has made a fabulous resource for Advanced Care Planning called - it is a guide and workbook that leads you through creating an advanced care directive and proxy!

Step 2: Spend some time thinking about what your final wishes might be. Do you have strong feelings on what kind of funeral arrangements should be made? Write them down! Better yet, have a conversation with your loved ones about it. Yes, it is hard, but death is part of life and being prepared now will make it so much easier for the people you love to deal with later. If you already have a will, this is a great time to review it to see if any changes are needed. And if you don't have a will, consider making 2024 the year you make one!

Step 3: Think about what you would want to happen if something happened that meant you couldn't look after yourself. Do you have thoughts on who you would want to manage your affairs? Follow our stories about "Powers of Attorney" - these are documents that allow a person to appoint another person to manage their affairs. Making one can make things MUCH easier on your loved ones.

BONUS: If you still have time and energy, create a contact list of all of the people that you care about and rely on. This can streamline communication during challenging times.

Ready to make a difference in your life and theirs? Put in the hard work now to lay the foundation of a well-organized estate. πŸ’• 🌟
