June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and reflect on the histories, cultures, experiences, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, including their impact on sport and the game of hockey.
It starts with curiosity, listening, and taking time to understand stories and perspectives that may be different from our own.
Every conversation we have, story we hear, and new perspective we encounter helps us better understand the people and communities that are part of our game.
This month, we encourage everyone to take one small step toward learning more.
Try reading a book, asking a question, watching a film, or following a new account. Every action matters.
🎬 We recommend watching Indian Horse as a great place to start.
Based on the novel by Richard Wagamese, Indian Horse tells a powerful story about hockey, resilience, identity, and the lasting impacts of residential schools.
Learning starts with one step.
