Today would have been Eragon’s 11th birthday.

To honor his memory—and the incredible bond I shared with both Eragon and Cortez—I’m proud to announce the launch of my book:

A Whisper on the Wind: My Porties Full Circle

This story is for anyone who has ever loved and lost a dog, who understands that some companions change us forever, and that their lessons linger in the quietest moments.

To mark this special day, I’m sharing a poem from the book. It says what my heart still feels every day.

From Cortez to Eragon,
a journey bound by fur, loyalty, and the kind of love only a dog can give.
They were night and day—different in their ways yet tethered by something timeless.
This breed is not for the faint of heart.
They arrive like a storm—brimming with energy, stubborn as stone,
and with a bark that echoes through walls and memory.
But oh, the heart beneath it all.
A heart that follows you room to room, leans in when the tears fall,
and stays close—always close.

Cortez stood beside me as I built a family.
Eragon walked with me through the stillness of an emptying nest.
One helped raise children.
The other helped me remember myself.
Each arrived with purpose.
Each left a legacy stitched into the quiet corners of everyday life.

Sometimes I wonder—no, I believe—Cortez sent Eragon.
To show me the rest of the story.
One born in fall, the other in spring.
And when Hemangiosarcoma came,
as cruel and swift as a thief in the night,
it came for them both.
Full circle.
Bound by seasons, purpose, and love.

My two darling boys.
Happy Birthday, Eragon.
In my heart, forever.
