By diversifying the workforce, we strengthen the industry for the future. Let’s build it together.

On June 17, 1958, a tragic event unfolded during the construction of the Second Narrows Bridge in Vancouver, British Columbia. A span of the bridge collapsed, sending 79 workers plunging into Burrard Inlet. Eighteen men lost their lives that day, and a diver perished during subsequent recovery efforts, marking it as the worst industrial accidents in Vancouver's history.

In 1994, the bridge was renamed the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing to honor the 19 workers who died during its construction. This renaming serves as a lasting tribute to those who paid the ultimate price in building the infrastructure we rely on today.

Every year on June 17, memorial ceremonies are held and we remember the fallen workers.

As we cross the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge, let us remember the sacrifices made and continue to advocate for the safety and well-being of all workers.
