Putting out a campfire properly isn't as simple as you might think... About 40% of all wildfires are human-caused, and unattended or improperly extinguished campfires are one of the most common ways they catch and spread. So how do you make sure stray embers don't venture away from your fire?

1. Cover the fire with plenty of water! Keep going until you can't hear any hissing.
2. Stir the water ashes and dirt together with a shovel or stick. If there are any logs or sticks in the fire, scrape at them to check for embers.
3. Repeat! Keep covering the fire with water and stirring until there's no steam and you can hover your hand a few inches above the ashes without feeling ANY heat.

Tip: Make sure to check under any rocks around your fire pit to ensure there are no embers hiding underneath!

Let's protect our forests and communities from wildfires this summer... 😊🌲

At Conifex, we're the next generation of Canadian forestry. That includes our belief in full fibre utilization. We use the branches, bark, and tree tops that other lumber companies abandon or burn to feed our biomass power plant in Mackenzie. Using that otherwise wasted material allows us to generate 230 GWh of green energy per year.

That's enough to power
βž” over 1 billion km of driving in an electric vehicle;
βž” 20,000 BC homes for a year; or
βž” all of Mackenzie for about 2 years.
