So here’s a checklist idea to Be the Competitor Every Jackpot Wants Back

My post the other day sparked a lot of conversation. Instead of just talking about the problem, let’s talk about the solution.

Whether you’re new to barrel racing or you’ve been hauling for years, here are a few simple ways to help every event run a little smoother.

🐴 1. Pack extra garbage bags.

Keep a few in your trailer. They’re handy for garbage, wet clothes, and unexpected messes.

🗑️ 2. Find the garbage bins when you arrive.

Knowing where they are makes cleanup quick and easy.

💩 3. Ask where the manure pile is.

Don’t leave manure or used shavings where they don’t belong.

🚿 4. Leave the washrooms the way you’d hope to find them.

It only takes a minute to clean up after yourself.

🥤 5. Pick up more than just your own garbage.

If you see an empty bottle or coffee cup, grab it. Small actions make a big difference.

🤝 6. Respect the volunteers and organizers.

Without them, there are no jackpots.

🚛 7. Leave your parking spot cleaner than you found it.

Before you pull out, do one last walk-around.

🐕 8. Clean up after your pets, too.

It keeps the grounds enjoyable for everyone.

😊 9. Offer to help if you have a few extra minutes.

Sometimes five minutes of help at the end of the day means the world to an exhausted organizer.

❤️ 10. Remember you’re a guest.

Every event is someone’s hard work. Treat the grounds, the volunteers, and fellow competitors with the same respect you’d want if you were hosting.

If every one of us did these 10 things, imagine how much easier it would be to keep these events going for years to come.
