Tendons are probably one of the most common problems areas in women during pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause - do you remember that raging tendinitis you had after giving birth? Remember that Achilles tendon pain? Of course you remember, you still have Achilles tendinitis- I mean tendinopathy. I think it’s also easier to ask who hasn’t had gluteal tendinopathy. Seriously. Now this brings me to menopause: the musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause. Did you realize that 71% of women will have pain with perimenopause? Did you know that 25% of those will be disabled by it? Yeah. That’s why I am talking about this. I need you to understand that rehab for this is a long process. You have to load the tendon to heal it. Sometimes you might find you’ve done all the right things and it’s still not leaving. Sometimes there are chemical and systemic issues at play. Uncontrolled blood sugar, estrogen decline, and so when those things are under control you might find improvement. I just want you to know, I know you’re frustrated.
