In this clip from episode 6 of Branches Between Generations, Les explains how in his youth, parents gave children much more freedom and today, parents seem to be 'helicopter parents'.

Do you agree with Les?

Are you a parent? From which generation? Do you give your children freedom or do you hover, like a helicopter?

Tell us more in the comments below.

This evening, the came by the studio to record videos for their upcoming virtual Global Summit 2026.

We changed up the studio space to include our green screen, a two camera set up complete with a teleprompter so the team members could relax, focus and speak with clarity and purpose.

Next we will edit the recordings into videos for use at their summit this upcoming weekend. Thanks for using the studio, GELP.

Yesterday we gathered with the cast, crew, and families at The Berwick in Parksville to celebrate the release of our community podcast Branches Between Generations.

A special thank you to The Berwick for providing refreshments and snacks along with the truly spectacular Berwick Theatres to enjoy watching the 45-minute Directors Cut that was put together.

This podcast was produced with support from TELUS over the past 12-18 months. The series consists of eight, 25 minute long episodes which can be viewed on YouTube, or TELUS OPTIK TV channel 9.

Links can be found in our bio or please follow us on YouTube to catch so content related to the project as we release more clips over the summer months.

We hope that everyone enjoys watching these conversions and stories as much as we enjoyed listening to them and putting this altogether.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this to life!🙏❤️ Including our community sponsors, The SOS and The Berwick.

The Parksville Loggers: When Baseball Brought the Whole Town Together ⚾️

In the 1950s, Parksville’s community spirit was alive and well at the local baseball diamond! In this clip from our Branches Between Generations podcast, we look back at the incredible turnout for our local adult baseball team, the Parksville Loggers.

Game Day Memories at Community Park included massive crowds. The games drew huge audiences that completely filled the old two-sided grandstands. Fans who couldn’t get a seat would line the grassy banks all the way up to the highway just to watch the action!

It’s a bygone era, with the grandstands long gone, but the memory of these packed, community-wide events lives on.

Did your parents or grandparents ever talk about attending a Parksville Loggers game? Share your family’s memories in the comments! 👇

We are incredibly excited to share this project with you. This is more than just a podcast—it’s a movement to connect students from the digital age with seniors right here in Canada’s retirement capital, Parksville!

In our very first episode, we sit down at Podio Studio with Liz, who has lived in the area since 1948, and local teen Jet. They swap stories about what growing up in Parksville used to look like—from packed grandstands at the Parksville Loggers baseball games to the original one-day sandcastle competitions on the beach.

We are also joined by Alice and Bonnie from the Society of Organized Services (SOS) to dive deep into the unique challenges faced by different age groups today. We explore the digital pressures on today’s youth alongside the technological and emotional hurdles seniors navigate, proving that simply listening to one another without judgment is the best way to bridge the gap.

Coming soon…
We will be dropping the first two episodes on April 29. Stay tuned for more to come.

"Sharing stories across generations is the focus of a new locally-produced video series.
Boosted by a $12,000 grant from the TELUS STORYHIVE program, local freelancer Clinton Nellist and his team went to work creating Branches Between Generations, an eight-episode series connecting seniors with local high school students.
Nellist told NanaimoNewsNOW the idea came from local studio owner Mark Beuerman’s regular trips past the Berwick retirement community and a feeling of “there’s gotta be stories in there.”
“Why don’t we find an opportunity where we have the seniors in Berwick get connected with local high school students to have conversations? We were just trying to take two different people from two different generations who had never met each other, these are all strangers, and we sat them down with microphones and cameras and kind of facilitated the dialogue.”
Connections through Berwick and the Society of Organized Services in Parksville helped Nellist line up interested seniors and students to discuss an array of topics.
Episodes in the series focus on topics like love, technology, history, education, and careers.
Nellist said in some episodes, the seniors drive the conversation, while in others, the students took the lead."
