Advantage Boating is thrilled to welcome Gord to our team in 2026!
Gord brings an exceptional depth of sailing and teaching experience as a Sail Canada Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Cruising Instructor, with experience teaching aboard both monohulls and catamarans. He is also a Sail Canada Instructor Evaluator, helping train the next generation of sailing instructors. β΅οΈ
Gordβs passion for sailing began in childhood at his family cottage in the Kawartha Lakes, where he learned to sail through his local sailing club as a student, racer, and eventually instructor. He began teaching sailing in 1978 and has spent decades developing sailors and mentoring instructors.
In 1985, Gord became Head Instructor at Pier IV Sailing School in Toronto. During the 1980s, he also served as a Sail Canada (then known as Canadian Yachting Association) Dinghy Instructor Evaluator, training and supporting instructors across Canada. In 1987, he represented Canada in an instructor exchange program with the Spanish National Sailing School in Majorca. π
Gordβs keelboat racing experience spans more than four decades and includes Key West Race Week. His cruising experience includes the Great Lakes, Caribbean, and Pacific Northwest, with offshore passages from St. Thomas to Turks and Caicos and from Bellingham to San Francisco.
Since 2020, Gord has focused on teaching Basic through Advanced Cruising courses and, since 2024, has been leading Instructor Seminars. He currently teaches on Lake Ontario, in the Pacific Northwest, and in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. ποΈ
