I still remember the first time I watched The Toy Story 1. It was the summer of 1996 when I was in grade 8. Since then, because of its popularity, the film has often been on tv in our summer school break. Even though the upcoming series were not always been released in the summer, watching the Toy Story series has always felt like a summer ritual to me. 🌞

Fast forward to 2019 when the Toy Story 4 came out, I was too feeble coping with my emotional meltdown due to parenting and family relationships. I only watched it in 2022 on a plane while my son was asleep beside me on our way back to Canada after attending the funeral of my father-in-law, with whom I always had a stronger bonding and easier talks with than with my son’s father. There were too many cries and tears for me in the film. I couldn’t help my tears when I saw how Bo broke out her destiny and made her own life. I felt I were Gabby Gabby when the fragility and insecurity she shown and the hard bitch on the surface but deep down loneliness.

Another two years now, things are unsettled but I’m progressing. I think.

To mark the last day of school year of my son who is heading to grade 3 soon 🥹😭 and maybe some breakthrough in my life… arh… here we go to have some classic Toy Story washi tapes.
