Microsoft has released emergency out-of-band (OOB) updates to fix critical issues introduced by the January 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. These fixes are not available through Windows Update and must be downloaded manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Problems Being Fixed

These emergency patches address two major issues caused by recent security updates (KB5074109, KB5073455, and KB5073724):

• Remote Desktop failures
Users reported sign-in and authentication errors when connecting through Remote Desktop applications.

• Shutdown / Hibernation loops
Devices with Secure Launch enabled may restart automatically instead of shutting down or entering hibernation.
