*Eyes of Fire*

The haunting spectre
of betrayals past
cloud my vision
blinding me
to the bright love
shining in my present

so I flee to the forest

to dance in the arms
of my family trees
and release the pain
that’s been hiding
in my tender nerves
for silent decades

and somewhere between

the whirling flail
and the wounded wail
I find forgiveness
and like the morning sun
blazing molten gold
across the eastern sky

I now see with eyes of fire.
