On Monday, Sept 30, the Nanaimo campus library services will be closed to honor National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The library building will be open 9am to midnight with VIU ID card access required.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is for holding space, reflecting and bearing witness to the lasting impacts of residential schools. The 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report and calls to action identify universities as a critical space for reconciliation.

“By listening to your story, my story can change. By listening to your story, I can change.” – Anonymous participant, TRC report

“The impacts of residential schools are not buried in the past; they continue with the loss of traditional knowledge and other multigenerational traumatic effects.” – Gregory Younging, Elements of Indigenous Style

You can find Younging’s book in our collection. For more resources, check out our guide: https://library.viu.ca/FN/IRS
