Learning Disabilities Specialist

s’ Learning Profiles

• Developing individualized learning strategies by utilizing the students’ strengths identified from the students’ Learning Profiles and instructing those selected strategies in combination with appropriate assistive technology such as Kurzweil 3000 using the Strategic Information Model (SIM)

• Creating individualized learning strategies handouts such as memory and math learning strategies with illustrations, complete applications, clear steps, and procedures as well as examples based on students’ specific needs

• Evaluating the effectiveness of learning strategies previously taught to students such as for note taking and written expressions in meeting the needs of learners

• Identifying and providing on going instructions, support strategies and techniques to enable students to capitalize on their strengths and compensate for their learning deficits.

• Developing and facilitating workshops and providing individual assistance to students with disabilities in study, note taking, and reading skills as well as time management etc.

• Collaborating with specialists to develop programs for students' special needs

• Customizing and instructing students how to use different assistive technologies such as Kurzweil 3000 based on students’ specific needs (Reading Skills, Writing Skills, Test taking for Ministry of Education and school board exams)

• Determining accommodations of what the students’ needs in view of their processing and academic skills, deficits, history of success of any accommodations and the requirements of specific courses.

• Creating transition plans outlining appropriate learning strategies and assistive technology for students with learning disabilities to support their transition to secondary, post-secondary, or the workplace

• Tutoring students with different disabilities developmental (ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Asperger Syndrome, Autism,) mental: (Anxiety/Bipolar Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder—OCD) physical (visual impairment, blurred vision, cataract, color blindness) by capitalizing the students academic and processing strengths
