Meet Nick.
He loves boxing, Rocky, music, movies, and a good Tim Hortons coffee. 🥊 🎶 🍿 ☕️
After sustaining an ABI when he was 15, Nick has kept working towards the life he wants. His progress has taken time, patience, and real determination.
Today, he is building independence at Williams House, writing rap lyrics, staying active, and reminding others that it’s important to keep getting back up.

Many people living with an ABI face legal issues related to disability benefits, employment, housing, insurance, and decision making, and finding the right support isn’t easy.
We’re proud to share that Mind Forward has received a Responsive Grant from The Law Foundation of Ontario to better understand the legal needs of our clients.
Over the next year, we’ll work alongside the individuals we support, their caregivers, legal professionals, and community partners to identify the gaps, strengthen partnerships, and help shape future solutions.
This is an important first step toward improving access to legal information and support for the ABI community and we hope it opens the door to even more opportunities in the future.

Recovery doesn’t always look the way people expect.
Sometimes it’s learning to speak again. Sometimes it’s finding the confidence to leave the house. Sometimes it’s simply getting through the day.
As Brain Injury Awareness Month comes to an end, we’re creating space for real people to share what life after an acquired brain injury looks like…the hard parts, the small wins, and the moments that remind us hope can grow in unexpected places.
If you want to better understand ABI or hear stories that stay with you long after they’re told, we’d love for you to join us this Thursday.

Most people with brain injury do not need another form to fill out. They need a system that knows where to send them.
on June 15, partners from across Peel, Halton, and Dufferin joined us to continue building the ABI care pathway. The conversation focused on practical ways to improve access, strengthen coordination, and make it easier for people with brain injury to connect with the support they need.
This work is rooted in partnership and a shared commitment to ensuring that no one falls through the cracks.
Thank you to Trillium Health Partners, Halton Healthcare, University Health Network, Hamilton Health Sciences, William Osler Health System, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and co-host Judy Gargaro for helping move this important work forward.

🧠 Brain injuries can profoundly affect mental health, often worsening pre-existing conditions or triggering new psychiatric symptoms.
Individuals with brain injuries frequently experience issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health disorders.
A comprehensive treatment plan that addresses both physical and mental health is crucial for a holistic recovery.
