The earliest example is a photo of Nelson Smith as a young boy of 4 in 1910 boiling sap with his family in two large metal pots over a roaring fire with his father Robert. Lorne, his son, purchased the existing woodlot near Bobcaygeon in 1980 and soon after started tapping a few trees and boiling in the same type of iron and copper pots over an open fire.
