Just read the NYT piece on feeding and “equality,” and here’s my hot take: bottles don’t create equality partners doing actual work does.

Breastfeeding isn’t the barrier. Unsupported breastfeeding is. When partners think their role is to watch, weigh in, or “help” occasionally, of course it feels unequal.

Breastfeeding thrives when partners are in it doing diapers, dishes, meals, laundry, mental load, and fiercely protecting rest. That’s what shared parenting looks like. My take from the article was the author didn’t feel supported in her first postpartum.
