May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada. This year’s theme, Honouring Asian Canadians: Stories that Built Canada, recognizes the histories, cultures and contributions of Asian Canadians across generations.
These stories are part of Canada’s story. They live in families, communities, workplaces, neighbourhoods, traditions, languages and everyday acts of care, leadership and belonging.
At Taproot, respect for all voices is one of our values. In our work, that means recognizing the histories and lived experiences people bring with them, and making room for people to be seen, heard and respected.

Bloom welcomed guests into its Surrey space today for an open house.
The program opened in January and supports adults with diverse abilities through a new Day Program.
The open house was a chance for Taproot teams, Community Living BC, neighbours and community partners to tour the space, meet the Bloom team and learn more about the program.
Thank you to , , and the Bloom team for the work behind this program, and to everyone who came by to help celebrate Bloom.

When Taproot’s leadership team came together in Vancouver for our annual meeting this month, the most important part was the stories.
That is part of good leadership, too. Staying close to the purpose of the work, and to each other, helps us return to our teams with more clarity, connection, and energy for what comes next.
Stories from across our organization that brought us back to the people we serve, the relationships at the heart of this work, and the kind of support that can change the course of someone’s day, or even their life.
There was space for big conversations, honest reflection, and some fun along the way. Impact stories grounded us in why this work matters, while time spent together outside the meeting room gave people a chance to connect in a different way.
That is part of good leadership too. Staying close to the purpose of the work, and to each other, helps us return to our teams with more clarity, connection, and energy for what comes next.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve shared stories from people who work at Taproot.
Different roles. Different paths. Different stages of life.
Some started in temporary roles and stayed.
Some stepped away to learn and grow, then chose to return.
Some have built long careers that continue to evolve.
There’s no single Taproot journey. What connects these stories is the space people have to grow, change direction, and stay connected to work that matters to them.
If you’re curious about what working at Taproot could look like for you, current opportunities are shared here: https://taproot.ca/come-work-with-us-taproot-community-support-services/

Today is World Autism Awareness Day, and April is Autism Acceptance Month. It is a chance to speak to the importance of support that is respectful, personalized, and shaped around the person.
At Taproot, we support children, youth, and adults with autism across our services. That support starts with understanding strengths, needs, and goals, and creating space for people to be included and supported in ways that work for them.
Autism is not always visible. That is why respect, patience, and understanding matter. Meaningful support starts with listening, not assuming, and responding to each person in ways that reflect who they are.
