You’re making a huge mistake.

Let me clarify.

You’re making a huge mistake buying a home only thinking about today and not 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now.

My role is not to just consider your needs and wants in a home today, but what those needs and wants will be in the future. None of us can predict what life for you looks like in the future. You may tell me this is your forever home, but reality is, it’s likely not.

You may say you never plan to have kids, but then call me in 5 years because you are having your first child, or your finances have changed and you need to downsize.

Not every home is going to match every possible need you’ll ever have. But what we do need to ensure is that we consider a property’s potential downfalls just in case you ever need to sell it.

Let me give you an example:

You buy on a busy street, and you don’t mind the noise. But when your life circumstances change in 7 years and you need to sell, a huge percentage of potential buyers will mind the noise. Suddenly, that busy street shrinks your buyer pool, which directly impacts how quickly you can sell and for how much.

Or maybe you buy a multi-level home with a steep driveway because you’re young, fit, and don’t mind the winter shoveling. Fast forward a decade, and that same driveway might deter families with toddlers or older buyers when you go to list it.

My job isn’t just to open doors and show you pretty kitchens. It’s to play devil’s advocate, point out the potential resale hurdles, and protect your investment.

We need to make sure the home you fall in love with today won’t become a burden tomorrow.
