The Basics for General Managers or First-Time Managers

1. Reshape the work environment, largely by raising
performance standards.
2. Craft a strategic vision for the company.
3. Allocate resources in a way that supports a competitive
strategy.
4. Develop and encourage top-notch employees.
5. Re-organize the company structure to keep up with the
changing times.
6. Run day-to-day operations by spotting problems and
opportunities.

While these 6 points appear to be basic, at a minimum requirements, it is surprising how many managers are not able to understand these are the core operational requirements that, if perfected through repetition and diligence, can a lead a company to greatness.
