As a fast-growing company, we foster a collaborative environment where creativity and technical expertise drive real-world impact. Join us in pushing the boundaries of aerospace technology!

Job Title: Aerospace Engineer (Control Systems Specialist)
Location: Medicine Hat, AB
Employment Type: Full-Time (On-Site)
Travel Requirements: International and regional travel required; a valid passport is mandatory.

Job Summary
We are seeking a talented Aerospace Engineer with expertise in control systems to join our team in Medicine Hat, AB. This role focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing advanced control systems for our UAV platforms. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver with deep knowledge of flight control algorithms, aircraft dynamics, and simulation tools, ready to tackle complex challenges in defense aerospace.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop and refine control laws for UAV flight systems, ensuring stability, performance, and reliability across diverse operational conditions.
• Model and simulate aircraft dynamics, including aerodynamics, propulsion, and sensor integration, using advanced simulation tools.
• Implement and optimize control algorithms for autopilot, guidance, and navigation systems.
• Perform system-level testing, validation, and optimization through simulations, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and flight trials.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate control systems with electronics, software, and mechanical components.
• Analyze flight data to diagnose issues and enhance control system performance.
• Leverage tools like MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or similar for control system design and analysis.
• Ensure adherence to defense industry standards and safety regulations for UAV operations.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in aerospace control systems design or 5+ years for candidates with relevant technologist qualifications.
• Expertise in control law development, including PID controllers, model predictive control, and adaptive control techniques.
• Strong understanding of flight mechanics, aerodynamics, and multi-body dynamics.
• Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, or equivalent.
• Proficiency in programming languages like Python, C++, or MATLAB for algorithm development.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving requirements and tight deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Valid passport for international and regional travel.
Preferred Skills
• Flight Dynamics & System Modeling: Modeling fixed-wing/VTOL aircraft and aerial manipulators; developing 6-DoF simulation environments (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
• Guidance & Control Law Design: Linear controller design (PID, LQR) using frequency-domain techniques (Bode plot, root locus); nonlinear controller design (e.g., INDI) with stability and robustness analysis.
• State Estimation & System Identification: Estimation using filtering techniques (KF, EKF, RLS).
• Hands-on experience with flight testing of fixed-wing or rotary-wing UAVs.
• Expertise in UAV control systems for defense applications.
• Familiarity with avionics certification standards (e.g., DO-178C, MIL-STD).
• Knowledge of sensor fusion, state estimation (e.g., Kalman filters), or machine learning for control systems.
• NATO Secret security clearance or eligibility (due to defense focus).
What We Offer
• Competitive salary and equity options in a fast-growing startup.
• Opportunities to shape cutting-edge defense technologies and grow professionally.
• Collaborative, supportive team culture.
• Comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, flexible hours, and more.
