A reminder that we cannot punish the young brain into maturity. It might temporarily stop behavior but doesn’t teach kids how to manage themselves in the future.

Maturity is not instantaneous, and development is not a straight line. 💬💙

Children might show thoughtfulness, impulse control, and empathy at times and then still regress at other times - even as development, on the whole, advances.

➡ Their emotions can interfere with impulse control, attention, and decision-making. Co-regulating and helping children notice their different brain states is a necessary stop on the road to maturity.

✨ Help kids recognize what happens to their bodies when frustrated and angry, and show them what to do about it!
