POST 4 Informative Series continued…

🐾🌿 Freework, Groundwork, and the Nervous System

Not all progress comes from doing more.

Some of the most meaningful changes in behavior happen when we intentionally slow things down 🧘‍♂️

This is where Freework and Groundwork fit into my work.

Both approaches invite dogs to move through space with less pressure and more choice. Instead of asking for performance, they allow the dog’s nervous system to gather information and organize the body at its own pace.

🐾 choice and autonomy
🐾 slow, methodical movement
🐾 time to process sensory input
🐾 opportunities to pause, investigate, or disengage

From a physiological standpoint, slow, intentional movement supports activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for rest, digestion, recovery, and regulation.

When the parasympathetic system is more available
muscle tone can soften
breathing becomes slower and deeper
posture becomes less braced
movement becomes more coordinated

🤔 This matters because the brain is constantly interpreting signals from the body.

A body that is tense, rushed, or braced sends the brain a message of urgency or threat.
A body that is moving slowly and with choice sends a different message.

👍 This is manageable.

Freework and Groundwork are not about teaching behaviors.
They are about changing the internal conditions under which behavior happens and creating optimum.

When the nervous system has space to downshift, dogs are better able to assess, think, and respond rather than react automatically.

This is why slowing down isn’t passive.
It’s foundational.

❓When things slow down for your dog, what changes do you notice in their body, movement, or behavior?

➡️ In the next post, I’ll explain why understanding people and their nervous systems has always been central to how I work ♾️

Pump It! Muscle Mix 💪🎵

Pump It! Muscle Mix is a 12-week small group, progressive free-weight training program for women, running 9–10am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at our facility in Lacombe, starting January 5th.

Muscle Mix is structured as 3 progressive 4-week blocks, each divided into a 3-day split and implementing a variety of training techniques to build strength, confidence, and consistency over time. The programming is intentional and progressive, but always adaptable, allowing you to work at your level while still being supported within a coached group setting.

This program is designed for women who want structure without pressure.
You’ll choose your own weights and options, while benefiting from thoughtful programming that supports long-term strength rather than quick burnout.
The small group setting provides motivation, accountability, and a supportive community while still allowing each participant to train at their own level.
Participants will receive strength logs to track progress throughout the program.

Music is a foundational part of every Pump It! program 🎵🔥
It’s not just background noise. It’s a motivational tool that helps keep the group connected, focused, and moving together, even though each participant makes the workout their own.

If you’re looking for progressive strength training in a supportive small-group environment where consistency, confidence, and sustainability matter, this may be exactly what you’ve been looking for 🥰
