Happy New Year!

2023 had it's ups and downs! Trying to summarize a year that had so much happen in 10 photos was tough...but I did it!

1. Our version of family.

2. Our long term foster pup found her furever home. We celebrated with Sadie alongside us at the table for a delicious steak dinner on her final night.

3. Mexico...it was "ab"solutely amazing!

4. We started our family in March by adopting Miss Arlyn. She was featured on the news with her siblings after being dumped on the side of the road near Brantford in February.

5. Which made almost losing her in June to a vicious dog attack is probably the most traumatic event I've had to deal with. This is still an ongoing issue with numerous days already spent in trials.

6. I took up tennis a bit more. Joined a tennis club and got the outfit to match the bougeeness 🤣

7. Family again. This time, a day in Toronto with my mom and sister to celebrate my mom's retirement.

8. Playing grand master's nationals in Montreal and finishing 2nd. It was great to be back on the field for a tournament after over a year!

9. My teammates and coach that make training for the challenging sport of Olympic lifting so much fun. Not pictured, my Wednesday morning girl gang. Oh, and I competed 2x and won 2 gold medals 🏅

10. A much needed girls trip...oops, I mean Ultimate tournament in Sarasota. We may have lost every game on the field but we certainly won for fun on the beach.

Cheers to a happy and healthy 2024!

I don't normally share much personal stuff but this is necessary.

Part 1...

This is going to be a long one!

I will start with a huge thank you to everyone who helped save our baby girl yesterday. The volunteers, the vets, the vet techs, and the surgeon 🙏 This post can't go without a big thank you to my friend, Genevieve and her boyfriend (a handy vet tech), who saved me, drove Miss Arlyn and me all around KW, Cambridge, and Guelph, did an indepth social media search to find details on the dog and it's owner, bought me dinner, and kept me company until Alex could get home ❤️

This is what happened...

Yesterday, we attended a dog friendly event to raise money for the Humane Society. What was supposed to be a fun outting for Miss Arlyn turned into a nightmare.

Arlyn was attacked by another dog and suffered what would have been a fatal puncture wound in her shoulder if it hadn't been for the quick acting volunteers and a grocery bag as a tourniquet on site. Once she was stabilized there, we took her to the Emergency Vet Clinic in Cambridge. Once there, they ran x-rays to make sure her leg wasn't fractured. During the x-rays, Arlyn blew out a 4cm blood clot and almost bled out. The quick acting vet and techs were able, once again, to apply pressure and bandage her up again. This is where the big decision was needed. Do I bring her home with sedation meds, antibiotics, and lots of bandaging, watch her like a hawk so she doesn't move and reopen the puncture wound, and bleed out at home if I can't bandage her fast enough? Or do I take her to OVC in Guelph where they can open her up, fix the puncture, and if needed, have blood for a transfusion? The cost difference was significant, but I knew that I couldn't handle this on my own, so off we went.

Arlyn safely made it out of surgery around 9pm last night. Spent the night at the clinic. And...we just received the call that she is ready to come home for 2 weeks of boring rest 😴

This alone is horrific and traumatizing. Knowing all of it could have been prevented is absolutely blood boiling 😡😠

Stay tuned for Part 2...coming soon!
