Riders are matched to their horse to ensure that they receive maximum benefit while riding. A rider with very tight, spastic muscles, usually starts off on a narrow, smooth gaited horse to encourage relaxation of the muscles, whereas a rider with poor balance or trunk control would be mounted on a wider horse to provide them with a more stable base of support. Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, which recognizes the heritage and histories, diverse cultures and languages, and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Metis.
TEAD Therapeutic Riding Centre acknowledges the land on which we live and work is located on the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Mississaugas. This territory is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt, an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe to share and care for the land and resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between-the-Lakes Purchase of 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
