It’s been a great first week in my new studio space . I’ve primarily focused on attempting to drawing with coloured pencil on canvas, seeing how the pigments take to this new base material, as well as coming to understand that I have to change how I layer the colours to get the pigments to stand out and create enough contrast to make this drawing looks three dimensional and not just a ghost of a drawing
So far it seems surprisingly difficult to get the coloured pencils to make overly dark marks without multiple passes, but I’m actually feeling quite pleased that this self portrait has turned out as well as it has so far
I’ve got a bit more work to do on the hair and then I plan to pick out the weave, similar to my last test (image 4) and see how the coloured pencil looks when parts of the fabric are removed
And believe it or not, I did iron this canvas 😬

There are just two days left to see some of my largest Screen Time drawings as a part of their Machine exhibition
A huge thank you to everyone who’s made it out to see them, or stopped by during my residency last summer. My artistic experience has been absolutely exceptional and I feel incredibly honoured to have been chosen for this opportunity! Thank you for your continued support
