Inventions Composer Spotlight: Victoria Slamovits ✨

Victoria Slamovits is a pianist, violinist, violist, and composer born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a Bachelor of Music from The University of King's College. She has been playing instruments since childhood and has been participating in symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles in Halifax, as well as two tango orchestras in Buenos Aires. She has trained with pianist/composer Peter Allen and violinist Jennifer Jones in Halifax and pianist/composer Yazmina Raies in Buenos Aires. Victoria has performed in Halifax, Lunenburg, Buenos Aires, and Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Inventions Composer Spotlight: Benjamin Fraser ✨

Benjamin Fraser is a composer for film and the concert hall. His works and films have premiered across Canada and throughout Europe. He completed his undergrad in Composition at Dalhousie studying under Amy Brandon and received many scholarships including the Judith A. Grant Bursary from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust.

Inventions Composer Spotlight: Shanti Sivarulrasa ✨

Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Shanti Sivarulrasa is a composer and violinist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she studies composition with Dr. Jérôme Blais in the Bachelor of Music program at Dalhousie University. Beginning in Fall 2026, she will be pursuing a Master of Music (Composition) at the University of Ottawa under the tutelage of Dr. Dinuk Wijeratne. Her works have been championed by leading Canadian ensembles including Alkali Collective (Halifax, NS), Array Ensemble (Toronto, ON), Symphony Nova Scotia (Halifax, NS) and the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa, ON).

Inventions Composer Spotlight: Garrett Niall ✨

Garrett Niall (he/they) is an African Nova Scotian composer-percussionist from Punamu'kwati'jk (Dartmouth), Nova Scotia. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Music at the University of King's College & Dalhousie University, studying under Matthias McIntire in composition and Mark Morton in percussion. He has served as the principal percussionist in the Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra since 2023. Their works have been featured by Alkali Collective, the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, Open Waters Festival, Nuovo Contemporary Concert Series, and Dalhousie Theatre's showing of Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters.

Stephen Deturbide is a Halifax composer who loves writing for art song, orchestral and singer-songwriter formats. His most recent adventures include a residency at the highSCORE New Music Festival in Belluno, Italy and a semester abroad studying composition at the University of Manchester, UK.

Michael is a Newfoundland musician and songwriter living in East Hants Nova Scotia. He is the lead singer, guitarist and principal songwriter of Transatlantic Zodiac Ensemble as well as an established solo artist and is currently working on a new batch of songs with legendary producer and drummer Mark Adam.

Inventions Artist Spotlight: ADINA ✨

ADINA is a Neo Soul/Folk Artist with soul soothing vocals and heart warming lyrics. Hailing from North Preston, Adina gained her love of music growing up surrounded by her musical Country/Gospel Family. Adina has received the ANSMA Portia White Youth award 2021, and the Creative Nova Scotia Portia White Protege Award 2022. Her most notable performances being during Nova Scotia Music Week 2025, Crescendo Festival, Multiple shows of the African Nova Scotia Music Association, Halifax Jazz Festival and most recently the Romerias de Mayo Festival in Holguin Cuba. Through passion and dedication, ADINA’s story is just beginning.
