The world produces enough food to feed EVERY SINGLE PERSON; so why are there people still hungry and unable to access this food? In Canada alone, $31 billion dollars of food each year ends up in landfills or composters and Enactus Saint Mary’s Square Roots wants YOUR help to change these facts. Enactus Saint Mary’s has created the brand Square Roots, which aims to redirect the food into the hands
of our motivated community. One project is the Token Program. The Token Program gives customers the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal while helping restaurants use up their surplus meal ingredients. All it takes is for a customer to purchase a $5 Token at a retail location and then redeem it at a partnered restaurant! That’s 5 meals for ONLY $25! Not only can you use the Token for yourself, but next time you purchase a Token, think about giving it to someone who you think may need a meal a little more than you that day. The second way we approach this food dilemma is through the budget-friendly and efficient approach to healthy eating… BUNDLE SERVICE! The Bundle Service purchases seconds produce from local farmers, and thanks to all of our amazing customers, we have to purchase more and more of this seconds produce which means LESS and LESS food is being thrown out! This project targets ANYONE who wants easy access to healthy and affordable food. Enactus Saint Mary’s has been combating food insecurity through the sale of 10 lb hearty fruit and vegetable bundles. The Bundle Service sells these DELICIOUS produce bundles on the last Saturday of every month for $10 or $5. We want these Bundles to be accessible FOR EVERYONE because as students, we understand the importance of having produce in the kitchen.
