Thank you so much to the readers who voted for We’re Not Rich. For the past few months, I’ve been receiving beautiful messages from people who have related to the everyday struggles and small triumphs of characters in the book. How lovely to see that connection reflected in support for the Atlantic Readers’ Choice Award. I’m so appreciative.

Thank you to the Atlantic Book Awards, for including this public participation award in their roster, and a warm congratulations to all of the nominated authors, every one of whom put their hearts into their work. What a writing community we have in this region! I was so happy to be sitting in a row with Susan LeBlanc,, BR Myers and Sherri Aikenhead last night.

Thank you to my writing mentor and editor Alexander MacLeod, who is generous in sharing his expertise in the art of short fiction.

Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia, your emerging writer support, via the Budge Wilson Award and the Alistair MacLeod mentorship program, was a huge boost. Much appreciation to Humber mentor Danila Botha and Alissa York at the Humber School for Creative Writing.

Thank you to editor Whitney Moran and Nimbus Publishing and Vagrant Press for having faith in me as a debut author.

Love to my siblings and mom, to my tireless and often shameless hype-man, Sandy Smith and to our Katie. In memory of our Ben, always.
