Reading about the sentencing of a British Columbia woman on s*x trafficking charges made me sick to my stomach.
It is difficult to comprehend how anyone could inflict such deplorable actions upon a child, especially a 13-year-old victim. Cases like this are heartbreaking and serve as a painful reminder of the devastating reality of human trafficking and exploitation that continues to impact vulnerable children and youth across our country.
My thoughts are with the survivor whose childhood was forever altered by the actions of those who chose to exploit rather than protect. No child should ever have to endure such abuse, manipulation, and trauma.
As communities, we must continue to raise awareness, educate our youth, strengthen prevention efforts, and hold offenders fully accountable for the harm they cause. We all have a responsibility to create safer spaces where children are protected, believed, and supported.
Today, my heart is heavy for this young survivor and for all those whose stories may never make headlines. May we never become desensitized to these realities, and may we continue the work of ending human trafficking in all its forms.

Earlier this May, I had the privilege of sitting down with CBC/Radio-Canada journalist François Lacroix-Lafrenière to speak about the importance of education and awareness around human trafficking.
During this conversation, I shared parts of my personal story, the realities many survivors face, and some of the warning signs that may indicate someone is being groomed or exploited.
Human trafficking is happening closer to home than many people realize, and education is one of the strongest tools we have to protect our youth, support survivors, and break cycles of exploitation.
This interview was especially meaningful because it is now helping bring awareness not only here in Nova Scotia, but across Canada through a French-language platform. For many French-speaking communities, this may be their first opportunity to hear my story and learn more about the realities of trafficking, grooming, and survivor advocacy.
My hope is that by continuing these conversations, we can help people recognize the signs earlier, create safer communities, and remind survivors that they are not alone.
Thank you to CBC/Radio-Canada for creating space for these important conversations and for helping amplify survivor voices across the country.

Today I was honored to be part of the walk to remember and honor the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S).
It was a powerful and emotional experience—walking in unity, reflection, and solidarity with Indigenous communities. Each step was a reminder that these are not just statistics, but lives that mattered deeply, families forever changed, and voices that deserve to be heard.
I carry this with me not just today, but every day—a commitment to continue raising awareness, standing for justice, and honoring the lives that were taken too soon.
We remember. We honor. We stand together.
