UW Rowing

Now that competitive season is over, it’s time to and get to know our crew members a bit more! Up first is Jordan, one of our amazing scullers who competed in HOTT, Brock invitational, and OUAs. He comes from Vancouver, BC, and is in his 2A of Civil Engineering.

Why did you start rowing? “I didn't have any extracurriculars and had lots of free time going into grade 10 and I was extremely bored and without direction in life. I did sailing during the summer and knew some kids in my class who rowed, so I wanted to give it a try. The feeling of accomplishment and speed when you race a 2k coupled with the sense of teamwork and friendship made me stay with the sport for my last 2 years of high school and has really helped me get to where I am today by helping me direct all my energy into something and creating a rigid schedule in my life that I can follow.”

What is your favorite memory with the UWRC? “Driving back from Head of the Trent with the team and just blasting country music as we drove along back roads with the windows rolled down in the afternoon sun while the whole row sang along to some downhome country. The sense of friendship and togetherness reminded me why I love this sport and the people in it.”

What gives you free speed? “Ace bakery Olive oil & Sea salt Mini baguette crisps, and accidentally shaving my head cause I didn't understand how to ask for a haircut!”
