It's proven that people who volunteer are happier and live longer, and that was evident last evening. I had the pleasure of attending the "Be the Spark" Community Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Halton Hills Cultural Centre and John Elliott Theatre.

Our community is built on the dedication of over 1,500 community volunteers who contribute their time to dozens of local organizations. Last year alone, more than 500 volunteers gave over 36,000 hours to support Town programs in Acton and Georgetown. Whether it is helping with seniors centres, local festivals, or environmental trails, the impact is immeasurable.

The keynote by Unstoppable Tracy was truly inspiring. Her journey as a World Cup athlete and four-way amputee demonstrated that limits only exist to be overcome. Her "Lim[b]itless" message on perseverance was a perfect fit for a room full of dedicated volunteers.

It was also a great opportunity to catch up with retired MPP Ted Arnott and discuss his continued involvement in the community, including his work driving patients for Cancer Assistance Halton Hills.

I encourage everyone to find a local organization that aligns with their interests and get involved. Use the comments below to give a shout-out to the local groups you volunteer with.
