absolutely hated. Not because the work was particularly hard, but because we simply felt as if our work life was stealing from us. Time that we could never get back. Marc once told me he had calculated how many weeks of vacation he would have in his lifetime if he continued working in his career as a Journeyman telecommunications technician. He said “Amanda, it would be slightly less than 100 weeks.” He looked disgusted and said “that’s under 2 years off in my entire LIFE!” That resonated with me. At the time, Marc was working at Shaw, Sam was just laid off from Shaw, and I was working toward a Bachelor of Science Degree at Grant MacEwan University while working part time as a Journeyman Scaffolder. I ended up taking a business minor and enrolled in a prerequisite class called Sustainable Business. That course changed my life! The whole concept of this class was based on business practices that strive to balance the Triple Bottom Line – profits, people, and the planet. Essentially to balance the scales you cannot sacrifice one to benefit the others. This isn’t easy to do, but I knew it was the key to true success. The ability to change one’s life and to have a positive impact on those around you. The three of us knew we wanted to make a difference and we were committed to try to adhere to the Triple Bottom Line. So, we enrolled into Massage Therapy school at Alberta College of Massage Therapy and began our journey. Where we’re going…
