Southwest of Calgary, the rolling foothills gradually open into a stunning mountain valley shaped by the Sheep River.
Sheep River Provincial Park is known for its scenic drives, abundant wildlife, and peaceful hiking trails that follow the river and climb into the surrounding hills.
It’s a place where you can take your time, whether that’s stopping at viewpoints, respectfully observing bighorn sheep, or enjoying a quiet stretch of trail.
As part of Kananaskis Country, it offers the same incredible landscapes you’d expect—just with a little more room to breathe.
If you’re looking to explore somewhere a bit quieter, this is a spot well worth discovering.

Did you know Alberta’s forests are home to the elusive Marten?
These agile predators thrive in mature boreal and mountain forests, using their sharp climbing skills to hunt small mammals, birds, and even squirrels high in the trees.
Despite their small size, martens are incredibly efficient hunters.
They rely on dense, healthy forests with plenty of cover, making them a strong indicator of well-managed ecosystems.
Quiet, quick, and rarely seen, the American marten is one of Alberta’s true forest specialists.
Protecting our forests means protecting the species that depend on them.
