The Government of Ontario is investing more than $10.7 million to build and upgrade bridges and culverts across the northern winter roads network.
These seasonal roads provide critical access for remote and First Nations communities, supporting the transportation of goods, equipment, and essential services during winter months when routes are accessible.
The funding will be used to improve water-crossing infrastructure, including the construction of new bridges and the rehabilitation of existing culverts. These upgrades are intended to enhance reliability, extend usability periods, and improve safety along the network.
Winter road systems are highly dependent on environmental conditions, and infrastructure improvements can help reduce disruptions caused by changing weather patterns and shorter operating seasons.
