Though dentures offer a more long-term solution, they don't last forever! Generally, dentures last several years and will need to be replaced. Dentists recommend getting new dentures every five to eight years. Over this time, dentures get worn out due to regular use, and your gums may change shape or shrink over the years. Make sure you are scheduling regular checkups to ensure that you're keeping up best oral health practices and your dentures are doing their job for you!

Here are some helpful tips to ensure that you are taking the best care of your dentures and oral health!
- Remove and rinse dentures after eating. Run water over your dentures to remove food debris and other loose particles.
- Handle your dentures carefully. Be sure you don't bend or damage the plastic or the clasps when cleaning.
Clean your mouth after removing your dentures. Clean your tongue, cheeks and roof of your mouth!
- Brush your dentures at LEAST daily!
- Soak dentures overnight. Most types of dentures need to stay moist to keep their shape. Speak to your dentist about what specific soring procedure to follow for your dentures!
- Rinse dentures thoroughly before putting them back in your mouth, especially if using a denture-soaking solution. These solutions can contain harmful chemicals that cause vomiting, pain or burns if swallowed.

Do not try to adjust or repair your dentures yourself. Denture self-repair can cause irreparable damage and may result in the need for a new denture. Even do-it-yourself reliners can be bulky, causing increased pressure on the jaw and more rapid loss of jawbone, and they can irritate the soft tissues of your mouth. If you are in need of light maintenance or repairs, give us a call and we will help your dentures get the care they need! (780) 244-5535
